September 15 2006 This Saturday I will be at Owl Magazine's 30th birthday at the CN Tower. I believe the event is only for subscribers but I will be teaching a short comics class alongside Liam O'Donnell and Michael Cho. They will also be signing their new graphic novel collection of Max Finder Mysteries. Plus this week the October issue of owl comes out with a brand new Halloween story of Alex & Charlie and November's will have a double sized A&C! ![]() On Sunday the 24th I will be in Halifax thanks to Strange Adventures (Canada's greatest comic shop) for the Word on the Street festival. I'll be signing comics, giving away Owls and doing a workshop or two. It should be more fun than a barrel of monkeys riding a unicorn. June 20 2006 Long time, no update so... The summer Owl special is out with 4 pages of Alex & Charlie comics, 2 pages of Alex & Charlie puzzles and I did a 2 page spread of a puzzle where you have to figure out what's missing from each gag. The missing parts were off to the side. Like these two: ![]() A few weeks ago I did a nice school visit, teaching some elementary kids how to make funny cartoons. They made some great comics. Artcade went quite well, we got plenty of press from local mags to Tech TV. Big up to everyone who came up out and especially to those who bought a piece. Check out The Princess Planet section because that's where all the updates have been. Most of my energies have been directed in that area. ![]() April 7 2006 Thanks to everyone who came out to the opening night of Artcade and made it so busy and fun. We got a nice write up in the Toronto Star and piece on CityTV. Hopefully more of you can make it out to the show over the next few weeks. ![]() I also had a good time at the Speak Easy comic book show. I got to show off the process behind The Princess Planet and the napkin Equisite Corpses we go on our HumpDay lunches. ![]() Plus the April issue of Owl is out with more Alex & Charlie and I also wrote a DIY pranks spread. March 11 2006 Video games! I'm curating an art show From April 5-May 17 at Microplay, 632 Queen St West. If you're in the neighbourhood you should check it out. ![]() ![]() I did 3 pieces of boss battles from Golden Gauntlet a game from my mashed up memories of sword swinging action. ![]() March 1 2006 This Month's issue of owl is the comic's issue so it's jammed pack with fun. Alex & Charlie goes on for 4 pages instead of 2 and the kids pop out of the comic and visit Claude and I. We even shot the photograph for the cover on my drawing table. For some reason the coloursit made us look very creepy but whatever. Claude and I also joined forces for 4 Mitsi Sue strips about the A&C bully character Garth's dog. Plus, I wrote a 4 page board game about the history of super hero comics that J. Bone drew. Click here to visit his blog and see some of the art. ![]() January 2 2006 Today Mike Cho and I put a 2 window display in at Pages Books kittycorner from the Much Music building. It's a multi-layered foam core piece about the prevalence of media and corporations co-opting street methods of getting the message out and vice versa. Why? Because Mike's kid's book Media Madness is thematically linked with my No Dead Time. ![]() ![]() The lastest Owl for Jan/Feb has more Alex & Charlie fun and I did more valentines for them this year. This time the kids get to cut out word balloons I wrote like "I treasure your friendship like a pirate treasurs... um, treasure." and "You are totally valentined!" and then match them up with whatever silly, hearty cartoon character they want. ![]() And I forgot to say Happy Holidays! May the spirit of the winter season find you without all that bitter cold. ![]() November 14 2005 The big deal for me is I've got The Princess Planet.com setup to showcase all the strips I've been doing. It looks like a box of cartoon candy, so check it out! October's Owl had an Alex & Charlie but also the horoscopes I wrote for them. This seeing into the future thing is really coming into fruition. Of course, I already knew that would happen. September 16 2005 Kids are in school and that means The Toronto Star's Brand New Planet is back with more Princess Planet fun. Plus now I'm writing horoscopes for them every few weeks in Constellation Prize. ![]() Plus the latest Owl is out with another hilarious-out-loud Alex & Charlie script. August 13 2005 I was interviewed for Space TV's Hypa Space show than ran today and is repeated tomrrow. They let me run my mouth about No Dead Time and why it is full of awesomes. August 4 2005 I've been doing more Tic Tac Machete strips for Fuel magazine. They're the full pagers you can find on the Tic Tac Machete page. For the final issue before summer break for the Brand New Planet, I did a double page layout teaching kids how to do their own scavenger hunts. Me and a businnes partner have been running our own events over at Team Recess. You can see the BNP spread by clicking here. The story I wrote for Owl's summer digest is well out. It also features a couple more Alex & Charlie fun bits I wrote. June 2 2005 TCAF was wicked fun. I've thrown up the comic for the TCAF book that Darwyn Cooke, Mike Cho and I did. This week the new issue of literary magazine Taddle Creek came out. Check it out to see my 4 page comic called Fad To Grey. May 7 2005 Today I went and signed at the Beguiling for Free Comic Book Day. I'll be back there at the Toronto Comic Art Festival at the end of the month sitting at the Owl table. There will be lost of great comic artists and writers about selling lots of great books and art. Drop by! The new Owl and Brand New Planets are out with more of my toons too. May 1 2005 I deleted some old stuff and put up a lot of new Tic Tac Machete strips. Apr 13 2005 For April Fool's day I wrote a bunch of fake horoscopes for the Brand New Planet. The wonderful Jean Chin illustrated characters like Sasquarius and Falafel Popsicle. The following week they ran another Princess Planet. Also, in addition to this month's Alex & Charlie, Owl has a cootie catcher I wrote too. Lots of fun! ![]() Mar 13 2005 See the latest installment of my Smooth N Natural cartoon in issue 4 of Phamous 69. The twin brothers from another mother take on The Bronze Pimp! ![]() Plus In an article for MacLean's about dodgeball, comics and video games I got quoted. Click here to see a cool article about how the 30somethings are feeling guilty about holding on to some of their childhood favourites. Mar 6 2005 I did an interview for No Dead Time at Exclaim!, the Canada-wide music magazine. Click here to read it online. Plus The March issue of Owl is an comic book special issue! They featured all the Bayard artists and gave us each a cartoon to do that started with the line "What's in the bag". I wrote this month's Alex & Charlie as a mad libs so everyone can participate in the fun. The new The Princes Planet came out last week too.
![]() Feb 10 2005 My comic, The Princess Planet debuted in the Toronto Star's kid section, Brand New Planet last week! It will be a monthly feature.
![]() Jan 26 2005 I sent the super funny & cool Janeane Garofalo a copy of No Dead Time and she liked it. On her blog on Air America radio show, the Majority Report, she recommends it. If you haven't you should rent Wet Hot American Summer, Mystery Men, The Ben Stiller Show so you will laugh yourself urine stained. And listen to her radio show if you have even a passing interest in Yankee politics. In fact a lot of Air America is pretty darn cool. I have quit as the regular cartoonist in Tribe Magazine. It's been a fun 6 years but I'm a little worn out on gags about the party scene. Jan 9 2005 Not only did I write the Alex & Charlie (as always) for the Jan/Feb issue of Owl, but I wrote and drew a bunch of valentines too. ![]() ![]() 2005! Dec 13 Look! Messy gingerbread of the Snowman/Princess Christi and Ornage Rhino/Tic Tac Machete! I should stick to pencil and paper except they are not as delicious.
Dec 10 It's generic winter holiday time again, so my card is up in the illustration/card section. And there's another nice review of No Dead Time here at the Torontoist. Nov 30 Big thanks to everyone who made it out the No Dead Time graphic novel launch! There were lots of people and lots of high fives. I was so busy signing and stuff I didn't get a chance to take many photos, but here are a few friends and what people did with the sketch pads I left out for everyone to mess with.
Nov 18 There are a few nice reviews of mine and Tom's No Dead Time comic on the net. Variety likes the hell out of it, Broken Frontier totally digs it, and the reviewer at The Fourth Rail finds the book funny, entertaining, smart, well drawn but doesn't like the characters that remind him of him himself? Nov 15 Dave and Scott from Fanboy Radio interviewed me about No Dead Time because indy press loving Dave gives the book a super high five. You can listen Wednesday @ 1pm CST, on KTCU - The Choice FM 88.7 in Ft. Worth, Texas or online at the same time at Fanboy Radio.
